History Made for Dominica: Pioneers Athletic Club’s Keyoni Esprit Breaks National Record and Qualifies for NACAC Championships

The Dominica athletics community is celebrating a remarkable achievement following an outstanding performance by young sprint sensation Keyoni Esprit of the Pioneers Athletic Club.

According to Coach Nabi’s review of the official results, Keyoni has officially qualified for the prestigious NACAC U18 & U23 Championships to be held in Mexico, a major milestone for both the athlete and Dominican athletics.

A New National Record

Competing in the Under-18 Boys 100 metres, Keyoni Esprit blazed down the track in an incredible 10.60 seconds, establishing a new Dominican National Record.

The previous national mark stood at 10.61 seconds, meaning Keyoni not only broke the record but did so in dramatic fashion, lowering the national standard and etching his name into the history books.

For any sprinter, breaking a national record is a significant accomplishment. For a young athlete still in the Under-18 category, it demonstrates exceptional talent, discipline, dedication, and the potential to compete successfully on the regional and international stage.

Ticket to Mexico
Even more exciting is that the performance meets the qualifying standard for the NACAC U-18 Championships, giving Dominica representation at one of the region’s premier track and field competitions.

Qualification for a championship of this caliber places Keyoni among the Caribbean and North America’s top young athletes and provides a valuable opportunity to gain international experience while proudly wearing the Dominican colors.

A Proud Moment for Pioneers Athletic Club, lead by coach Cedric Harris.

Four New National Records
Coach Nabi also highlighted that the meet produced four new national records, showcasing the growing strength of Dominican athletics and the emergence of a new generation of talented competitors ready to raise the nation’s profile throughout the region.

These performances signal a bright future for track and field in Dominica and demonstrate that our athletes can compete with the very best when given the opportunity and support.

Congratulations Keyoni!
On behalf of the athletics community, we extend heartfelt congratulations to Keyoni Esprit, his coaches, parents, teammates, and everyone at Pioneers Athletic Club.

Breaking a national record and qualifying for an international championship is no small feat—it is the reward for years of sacrifice, dedication, and hard work.
